The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is where art and architecture meet to create spiritual unity. Named after the UAE’s first president, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, this mosque symbolizes harmony and is a testament to Abu Dhabi’s vision.

This grand structure, completed in 2008, is the third-largest of its kind, with a footprint as big as four football fields! Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque can hold up to 40,000 people due to its size.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Structure and Design 

The mosque is a beautiful architectural style from different Islamic eras. It includes 82 gleaming white marble domes, over a thousand columns, and four towering minarets. Inside, you’ll find the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet, a work of art created by Dr. Ali Khaliqi and his team of skilled artisans.

But that’s not all. Look up, and you’ll will see dazzling chandeliers decked out in 24-carat gold and Swarovski crystals. The largest of these is a whopping 15 meters tall! These stunning features have earned the mosque three Guinness World Records.

The mosque’s design was a global effort led by Syrian architect Yousef Abdelky. British artist Kevin Dean added his touch with intricate floral patterns that grace the walls, creating a visual feast for the eyes.

Dress Code Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Despite its grandeur, the mosque has a calming aura that embraces everyone who visits. It’s open to visitors daily, except Friday mornings, which are reserved for worship. Remember to dress modestly, but don’t worry if you forget – they provide traditional abayas at the entrance.
